Professional Development and Support

At UHCW we aim to ensure that staff have the knowledge and skills to meet the needs of patients, the service and to provide challenging and rewarding careers. Our nursing and midwifery teams are encouraged to extend their expertise beyond their clinical specialities. We actively involve nurses and midwives at all levels in developing practice, decision-making and research. We encourage staff to undertake professional and personal development including academic courses, in-house training programmes and clinical skills training.

The Practice Development Team have a wide range of skills, knowledge, experience and expertise in order to support you in your career pathway at UHCW. A key aim of the team is to develop our workforce to meet the ever changing needs of the profession whilst ensuring shared values, vision and purpose and World Class Care for the patients we serve.

There are a range of development and training opportunities available to nursing and midwifery staff to support their personal and professional development.

These include clinical skills training such as:

  • Intravenous drug administration
  • Central line care
  • Falls prevention
  • Record keeping
  • High Dependency skills
  • Acutely Ill Management (AIM)
  • Wound management programmes
  • Leadership development

Many of our training programmes include simulation and scenarios.

There is the opportunity to undertake and receive funding for post registration education and to study for academic qualifications at degree and masters level.
