UHCW Chief Nurse co-edits new nursing handbook

Nurses at University Hospital, Coventry, and the Hospital of St Cross, Rugby, have contributed to a prestigious new manual for trainee and practising nurses.

Professor Mark Radford, Chief Nursing Officer at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust, led the team of editors in the publication of the first ever edition of the Oxford Handbook of Surgical Nursing. Mark collaborated with Nursing colleagues from Birmingham City University, where he is also Professor of Nursing, and also the University of Birmingham to produce the book.

The internationally-renowned handbook series features the latest in good practice and new developments in the field of nursing.

As well as Professor Radford, ten other UHCW nurses have also contributed to the book, offering expertise on such specialties as gynaecological and gastroenterological nursing.

Professor Mark Radford, Chief Nursing Officer, said:
“It was such an honour to be approached to be a co-editor on the Oxford Handbook of Surgical Nursing.

“Nurses are a vital part of the surgical team, caring for patients pre-, during and post-surgery. This book provides all the latest evidence-based information to help aspiring or practising surgical nurses to learn or develop.

“UHCW is one of the premier teaching hospital trusts in the country, and so it is fantastic that our staff have been able to use their experience to help educate the next generation of nurses.”
