Within paediatrics we provide care in the following areas:

Children’s Emergency Department

A paediatric four bedded High Dependency Unit (with the facility to increase up to six beds between October-April), caring for children aged from 0 to 16 years. We liaise closely with KIDS (Kids Intensive Care & Decision Support). Additional training and support is available including the in-house HDU course and training programmes affiliated with Birmingham Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Paediatric Adolescent Unit

A 12 bedded paediatric ward caring for young people aged from 13 to 17 years.

We are a transition service for young people with chronic, medical or physical conditions. Learning opportunities and training are ongoing and can include a CAMHS module, orthopaedic training and safeguarding.

Paediatrics Children’s Ward

A 24 bedded paediatric ward caring for children aged from 2 to 12 years. Further training includes the practical oncology programme and orthopaedic care programme.

Paediatric Medical Day Unit

A 6 bedded Paediatric Unit caring for children 0 – 17 years.

Further training includes practical oncology programme.

Paediatric Infants

A 19 bedded paediatric ward caring for babies/infants aged from 0 to 2 years. Further training includes breast feeding, nurse led Bronchiolitis management and nurse led discharge, orthopaedic care, safeguarding and UNICEF ‘Baby-Friendly’ initiative.
