Professional Development

The Trust takes professional development very seriously, providing year-round access to mandatory training and Grand Round Presentations. Each specialty organises its own departmental educational meetings.  Most specialties have developed a comprehensive list of regular and ad hoc courses which they run.  Many of these courses are widely acclaimed with national or international attendance.

Through a unique partnership with Cardiff Business School, one of the leading business and management schools in the country, we can offer staff the opportunity to acquire qualifications in Theory and Practice of Lean.  This is an important venture in support of our development programme with the world-leading Virginia Mason Institute.

There are a number of modern facilities to support education and training located in the Clinical Sciences Building. There is a large library, clinical skills lab, and surgical training suite and a nationally renowned “state of the art” simulation suite which attracts surgeons from across the world with its large number of local, regional, national and international courses are run throughout the year.
