CT/MRI

The Trust is a designated Major Trauma Centre, and the CT scanner in our Emergency Department is one of the busiest in Europe; we also perform a wide range of specialist neuro, vascular, cardiac and colonoscopy examinations on our CT scanners. Our MRI suite comprises of five MRI scanners, including a 3T and an extremity magnet, undertaking specialist MRI neuro, cardiac, liver and breast imaging for the region, as well as supporting a range of research trials.

Breast Screening

The UHCW breast imaging department provides both a static and mobile screening service to the population of Coventry and beyond using the latest digital equipment. The department’s forward thinking approach also applies to staff development, and we have supported our mammographers to develop to Advanced and Consultant Practitioner level.

Cardiac Catheters

UHCW is a national specialist tertiary Cardiac Centre and in the top 10 Primary PCI centres in the UK. Our cardiac catheterisation lab provides primary and diagnostic angiography/angioplasty, electrophysiology and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). We also provide neuro interventional services including both neuro and spinal coiling/embolisation using the latest equipment. Development prospects in this exciting area include ILS training and accreditation, IV cannulation training, and the opportunities to move into more senior co-ordinator positions.

Interventional radiology and Fluoroscopy

Interventional radiology is a growing speciality with new procedures being developed and undertaken by our team here at UHCW, including  vertebroplasty, UAE, PAE and TACE. Our radiographers work within a multidisciplinary team, treating patients using complex, innovative and minimally-invasive techniques.

In Fluoroscopy we have Advanced Practitioner radiographers performing gastric band adjustments and upper and lower GI studies.

Ultrasound

Our ultrasound services are delivered by a multidisciplinary team of sonographers and radiologists, providing a range of scans including interventional, body, musculoskeletal, obstetrics, and vascular.

Advanced Practitioner radiographers

Radiographers are established and valued members of the team at UHCW with our staff reporting on plain film, CT and barium studies.  The team is rapidly expanding, supported by highly specialised radiologist colleagues.
